About Us

The Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) is the world’s largest organization for public relations professionals. Its more than 28,000 members, organized into 112 chapters, represent business and industry, technology, counseling firms, government, associations, hospitals, schools, professional services firms and nonprofit organizations. 

About PRSA San Antonio

PRSA San Antonio is a professional association serving San Antonio and south Texas public relations practitioners. The chapter and the national organization, PRSA, are both marking more than a half-century of bringing professionals together to enhance the practice, to provide an exchange of experiences and ideals, and to promote professional development.

PRSA San Antonio was created in 1955 as the Central Texas Chapter of PRSA. The named was changed to the San Antonio Chapter of PRSA in 1966. Today, the San Antonio Chapter of PRSA has more than 120 members, one-third of whom are accredited in public relations. Plus, we have a network of more than 800 PR and communications professionals.

PRSA is the world's largest organization for public relations professionals. Its nearly 20,000 members, organized into 116 chapters, represent business and industry, technology, counseling firms, government, associations, hospitals, schools, professional services firms and nonprofit organizations.

Chartered in 1947, PRSA's primary objectives are to advance the standards of the public relations profession and to provide members with professional development opportunities through continuing education programs, information exchange forums and research projects conducted on the national and local levels. PRSA is committed to ethical practices. The level of public trust PRSA members seek, as we serve the public good, means we have taken on a special obligation to operate ethically. Networking

Our chapter comprises of professionals from various sectors, including corporate, agency, government and non-profit, from entry-level to seasoned practitioners. Ample networking opportunities exist year-round via monthly chapter-sponsored programs and events. As a member of the San Antonio chapter, you will enjoy the additional privileges of our online job bank and member directory, as well as discounts on chapter programs and invitations to member-only functions. Our chapter meets on the first Thursday of each month and schedules other professional development and networking events throughout the year. See events for details.

Professional Development

The monthly professional development programs tackle a wide variety of topics relevant to today's practitioner, including diversity, strategic communication, crisis communication and media relations, just to name a few. All workshops are designed to help members develop and enhance the skills necessary to practice effective public relations.

Accreditation

PRSA San Antonio supports the national PRSA universal accreditation program, a voluntary certification program that recognizes professionals who have demonstrated broad knowledge, experience and professional judgment in the field. Those who complete the exam successfully are awarded the designation “Accredited in Public Relations” (APR).

Del Oro Awards

The Del Oro Awards Program recognizes the best achievers and achievements in public relations for the greater San Antonio area. The 2007 Del Oro Awards Program honors the best PR practitioners in the community through the Del Oro individual awards. It honors the best practices awards through La Plata for campaigns and El Bronce for tactics.

Endowment

The chapter has established a nonprofit endowment in the name of the late Marilyn Potts, APR. The Marilyn Potts Endowment Fund supports public relations students as they enter the workforce.

Student Outreach

The San Antonio chapter sponsors a Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) chapter at the University of Texas at San Antonio, and works with UTSA as well as other area colleges to enrich the educational experiences of those studying to enter the field.

Volunteering
