PRSA San Antonio Honors Best In Public Relations Del Oro Award Banquet Huge Success
San Antonio’s outstanding public relations professionals were honored by the San Antonio Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA-SA) during the Del Oro Awards Banquet on Thursday, May 6 at the Bright Shawl.
Paige Ramsey-Palmer, APR, corporate communications officer at San Antonio Credit Union, received PRSA’s “Tex” Taylor Lifetime Achievement Award. Ramsey-Palmer is an active member of PRSA-SA, board member and participates in the readiness review process for candidates preparing to become accredited in public relations. The presence of her daughters and co-workers at the banquet honored her, and she expressed deep appreciation to PRSA for serving as a “filter” for good friends.
David Gabler, associate vice president for communications and marketing at The University of Texas at San Antonio, received the Public Relations Professional of the Year Award. Gabler said he was humbled by the honor and noted the vast improvement UTSA has made in the past 11 years as it moves toward Tier One status.
Stephen Chavez, account coordinator at MasonPR, received the chapter’s 2010 Community Service Award. Chavez thanked PRSA for the award and encouraged everyone to not only donate financially to important causes but also become personally involved, if possible.
Katie Hornstrom, communication specialist at Medina Electric Cooperative, received the Horizon “Rising Star of the Year” Award. Hornstrom is an active member of the PRSA Board of Directors and serves as editor of the chapter’s monthly Byline blog. Hornstrom thanked her mother and PRSA for the award, noting that it added to the sense of accomplishment she attained when she became the first member of her family to graduate from college.
In addition, PRSA-SA handed out 27 La Plata and El Bronce Awards to recognize outstanding campaigns and tactics, respectively. They included:

The evening event was hosted by Monica Taylor from FOX News First and included a Silent Auction benefitting the chapter’s Marilyn Potts Endowment Fund for student scholarships, which garnered $1,275 in support.
